In early 2023 the Committee began looking for ways to use the size of Urban Edge (380 Units), to improve the infrastructure and energy outcomes for residents and owners. At the time, separate contracts existed for electricity, hot water and gas cooking for Vista & Horizons, and hot water and gas cooking for Skyview. Electricity was managed by LPE, and hot water and gas cooking by Origin.
Looking to the future, we wanted a better outcome for electricity and hot water/gas, while allowing for demands of electric vehicle (EV) charging, and taking advantage of the large roof area to generate solar power.
In early 2025, proposals were received from three energy providers, with the Committee selecting Origin as the preferred proposal. This proposal was then put to the Body Corporate via an EGM on April 24, 2025 where it received approval.
The Origin proposal was substantially lower cost and provided greater infrastructure benefits via a large solar power station and EV backbone, ensuring Urbane Edge keeps pace and even exceeds what the newest residential developments offer.
Estimated direct financial benefit to Urban Edge over 10 years: $2,850,000
Status: Completed
Our embedded network provider will change from LPE to Origin. As part of this transition, Origin will be investing in smart meters for all Units ($160,000), ensuring Urban Edge remains compliant with upcoming regulations. Changeover date: June 16, 2025
Status: Construction
Origin has exclusively obtained ARENA (Australian Renewable Energy Agency) funding for this project, which will contribute 50% towards the installation value, totalling approximately $320,000, with the Body Corporate providing the remaining 50%.
Full details are on the EV Charging project page.
Status: Design
The hot water systems at Urban Edge have reached their end-of-life. Origin is investing $360,000 to replace all water heaters and tanks, ensuring another 10+ years of hot water at Urban Edge.
The is no change to the gas cooking infrastructure, but owners will now be able to disconnect their Unit from the gas line (at their cost), and avoid paying the daily gas cooking tariff. See the Help section for more details.
Status: Design
A solar power system approximately 210 kW will be installed across the Urban Edge buildings. All power generated will be used on site, greatly reducing the electricity costs to the Body Corporate. Origin will invest around $500,000 in the system.
